Use drinking windows

Add and review drinking windows so ready bottles are easier to find before they drift past their best years.

What a drinking window means

A drinking window is guidance, not a command. It helps you decide whether a bottle is too young, ready now, at peak, or worth prioritising soon.

SmartCellar can store general profile guidance and your own custom cellar window when your judgement differs.

Add or edit a window

Open the bottle, edit the wine or cellar details, and add start and end years where known.

  1. 1. Use the profile window when you trust the generated or researched guidance.
  2. 2. Use a custom cellar window when your storage, taste, or previous tasting suggests a different timing.
  3. 3. Add a note explaining the judgement if the bottle is valuable or easy to forget.

Make windows useful in practice

The best use of a drinking window is filtering the cellar before dinner, gifting, or buying. A ready bottle may still be worth holding if only one remains; another may be perfect for an ordinary meal if several bottles are left.

  • Review ready-to-drink bottles regularly.
  • Use tasting notes to adjust future decisions.
  • Ask Cella for a shortlist when several bottles are ready at once.
