Use cellar and location together
The cellar tells SmartCellar the broad storage place. The storage location tells you exactly where to find the bottle inside that cellar.
A good location note is short and repeatable: Rack A3, Fridge top shelf, Case 2, Bonded case, or Under stairs left side.
Keep quantity current
Quantity is one of the fields that makes the cellar trustworthy. Update it whenever bottles are opened, gifted, moved, sold, or replaced.
- 1. Open the wine from the cellar view.
- 2. Edit the cellar bottle details.
- 3. Change quantity and location if needed.
- 4. Save a tasting note when the quantity changed because a bottle was opened.
Be consistent
Consistency matters more than perfect detail. Choose a location pattern that matches how you physically search the cellar, then use it every time.
- Use the same rack naming pattern across a cellar.
- Move bottles before updating the location field, or update immediately after the move.
- Use private notes for details that do not belong in the short location field.
