Before you scan
Open Lists in the mobile app for Wine list helper. It has a separate monthly allowance from Cella questions and bottle profiles. Check Account → Monthly allowances in the app, or Settings → Subscription on the website, for Wine list scans.
Photograph one relevant page at a time, rather than a whole table or overlapping menus. Keep the wine names, vintages, section headings and prices readable. The current mobile capture flow starts reading after you take the photograph.
Capture the list and review what was read
- Open Lists, allow camera access if prompted and choose Capture list. SmartCellar begins reading the page while you add your preferences.
- Include the column headings that distinguish glass and bottle prices. Avoid cutting a wine name off from its price.
- On What should the bottle suit?, set Budget, What are you eating?, Anything to avoid? and any colour preference. Choose Impress me, Safest choice or Adventurous for the recommendation style.
- Choose Review to open Check the list. Use Edit wine on a misread entry and check Producer, Wine name, Vintage, Glass, Bottle and currency. Remove wine excludes an entry; Restore wine brings it back. Keep at least one wine and choose Next.
- Choose Show recommendations and wait for the shortlist. Open a recommendation to read Why this bottle and Skip if. Confirm the actual vintage, bottle or glass price and availability with the restaurant before ordering.
Make the request specific
For example, set a £45 bottle budget, enter grilled fish as your food, select white and put heavily oaked styles under Anything to avoid. The helper asks what the bottle should suit; check that you are comparing bottle prices in the correct menu currency.
A recommendation does not establish availability, reserve a bottle or add it to your cellar. Restaurant stock and served vintages may differ from the printed list.
If the result is incomplete
Use Change photo or Scan another list for an unreadable page. If the wines were read correctly, use Tweak the shortlist to adjust your food or maximum budget. Recent list lets you return to a saved result. Open a recommendation and choose Save to Wishlist to remember the wine without adding it to cellar stock.
For a persistent error, send support the affected page and the incorrect result, together with the scan time and app version.
