Take a usable photo
Label scan works best when the front label is sharp, evenly lit, and fills most of the image. Avoid glare, heavy shadows, and tilted angles when possible.
- Photograph the main front label first.
- Use the back label only when it contains important missing details.
- Retake the photo if the producer, cuvee, or vintage is hard to read.
Review the draft
SmartCellar builds a draft profile from the scan, but the collector remains the final reviewer. Producer, wine name, vintage, region, and colour are the most important fields to check before saving.
- 1. Confirm the producer and wine name.
- 2. Check vintage, region, country, and colour.
- 3. Choose the cellar and quantity.
- 4. Add purchase and storage details if you have them.
- 5. Save only when the record matches the bottle in front of you.
When to use manual entry instead
Manual entry may be faster for very plain labels, damaged labels, handwritten cellar tags, or wines where you already have a merchant invoice with better detail.
